As many of you know, I am not able to "see" ghosts (although I wish I could!) but over and over people on tours tell me they see spirits, particularly at Old Baptist Cemetery. What is remarkable to me is when I hear dozens of people tell me what they see, and their stories all match -- after so many people say that there's a 5-year-old-girl playing peek-a-boo in the northwest corner of the cemetery, you can't help but become a believer! There's also a man near the west fence line, very tall, dark, wearing a long overcoat; a Civil War soldier who is wearing his hat; a man named Edward in the northeast part of the cemetery who isn't hostile, but not particularly friendly, either (he kinda wants to be left alone). I have lost count of how many people that have taken our tour, people who are "sensitive" to paranormal activity, that have told me there are more than twenty spirits at Old Baptist Cemetery at any given time. I guess that's why our dowsing rods work so well to detect energy in the cemetery -- it's all around us, all the time!
Even if you're not a true believer, even if you've never seen a ghost, come take a tour and allow me to share Old Baptist Cemetery with you. It's a peaceful place where some people have rested for more than 170 years. It's historic, with amazing stories of the remarkable people who lived in Hannibal and are now buried there. But even the most ardent skeptic will admit that there's something "extra" special about Old Baptist Cemetery...

I was a bit skeptical of it at first, thinking it was just a hokey "game" of some sort.

We had other folks on the tour with Ghost Radar in January and February, and the more we worked with it, the more intrigued we became. It is used like an EMF Reader (Electro-Magnetic Field), it detects energy fields (shown as orbs on the radar screen). It also works like an EVP Recorder, it detects words that are "heard" by the phone and displays the word on the screen.

I can report some really amazing occurrences on the Haunted Hannibal tours using Ghost Radar in Old Baptist Cemetery. One lady wearing a Cubs t-shirt repeatedly had the word "Baseball" appear (as if the spirit close to her could see what she was wearing!) We had one screen showing six orbs all at once and the word "Family" appeared. A woman who was a cancer survivor had the Ghost Radar flash "Cancer", "Victory", "Celebrate", and "Fine" as she walked through the cemetery...

We now encourage guests on our tours to download the app and try it for themselves -- used in conjunction with our dowsing rods, it is even more fun to try to pinpoint the source of paranormal energy detected in the cemetery. Try it for yourself, and feel free to email me with your thoughts on this fun new Paranormal Investigating Tool!

For more information on "How Ghost Radar Works", visit the Spudpickles.com website, one of the app's creators.

We recently received an interesting email from a guest who was on our Haunted Hannibal tour in October, here's her report:

"Me and my friend were on your tour on the 15th of October, the 9:00 one...My friend had never been to Hannibal before and wanted to go to the Mark Twain Cave. As we bought out tickets we joked about seeing a ghost. On the tour the guy pointed out which room the girl had been in [McDowell's Chamber, where Dr. McDowell placed the copper cylinder containing his daughter's corpse to see if her body could be preserved]. As the tour moved on something caught my eye and I had to go look. What I saw was a young girl with dark hair...she didn’t look at me she was looking down. Then I saw what looked like someone offering her a hand to take...Just thought I would share that with you. Feel free to share that story if you want. V. Powell"

We're not surprised...! And this story is very consistent with similar stories we've heard about a sighting of a little girl near McDowell's Chamber, stories we've heard from multiple, unrelated sources.

Thanks so much for sharing your photos and stories, they're so amazing and so much fun to share with all our friends!
Now in seeing this picture I know dad was there."

Bud, thanks so much for your email. Some guests that have taken our tour tell me that they believe the possibility exists that our loved ones who have passed away may be with us quite often...so, during the Haunted Hannibal tour, when we are thinking of the possibility of communicating with spirits, when our minds are open to the idea, that's their chance to signal to us that they are, in fact, with us. Isn't that a wonderful, hopeful, comforting idea?

So glad you took our tour, you were a good sport and we hope to see you again soon. Next time you have the chance, say hello to your father for us. :)Anyone have any ideas on what could cause this? Even Ken said, "Yeah, that one is pretty interesting..."

Thanks to Gay and Bud and the gang for taking the tour, and to Gay for sending us the photo. Hope to see you guys again soon!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397697687166095166.post-31906263612117268212011-06-05T15:57:00.004-05:002012-09-14T09:58:20.273-05:00I Found "My" Headstone!Sometimes I get so busy out at Old Baptist Cemetery helping guests on our tour connect with the deceased that I don't have a chance to explore the cemetery myself. Well, apparently, if a spirit wants to reach out to you, they'll get your attention one way or another!

About a month ago I was on tour with a school group from Illinois. One of the boys, about ten years old, called out to me and asked me to come look at a headstone. He was standing near a large Honey Locust tree and there was a small headstone propped up against the tree's base. I'd never noticed it before.

Once I walked over to where the boy was and saw the headstone, I nearly jumped out of my skin!

As you can see, the deceased was Lizzie Young who was born May 10, 1857 and died when she was 45 years old:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3hMJFX3GapkfSA25XxiSaGOCneZBVwOpPy06d236z8kNduaZk1AgW0uaxc-Adh7TifuzjyqT6q-LKyKtxpBuZyaqqIziH4GSrxQs7eiwBFXfwXLgbkm8yhrxhDSZwwbTguz5zkszQrjg4/s400/My+headstone+at+OBC.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5614843115980516290" />

Well, before I married Ken my name was Lisa Young. My birthday is May 10th. The day I was with the school group was just a few days before my 46th birthday.

Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

Once back my dowsing rods again formed an “X” letting me know I had reached my destination. I didn’t try to communicate with the ghost this time, I just stood quietly. The air around me felt heavy. The feelings of fear and anxiety were gone. In the short time period, I felt a strange closeness to the spirit. So many questions were on my mind. Who was this spirit? Why didn’t it have a grave marker? And out of all things, why did this spirit chose to reach out to me?"

This is an excerpt from a GREAT feature about Haunted Hannibal Ghost Tours written by Jordan O'Donnell for "The Local Q", a Quincy, Illinois entertainment website. It was pretty dark by the time we arrived at Old Baptist Cemetery, and I think the guests on our tour were a little skeptical about the dowsing rods being able to sense "paranormal activity"...that is, until Mr. McVay started to have a strong response on his dowsing rods from a headstone close to the tree on the west side of the cemetery. According to the headstone, the deceased is Hezekiah King who died in 1932. His headstone displays the three chain links of the Oddfellows (a fraternal group that was similar to the Freemasons) and a VERY unusual triangle with the skull and bones logo.

Mr. McVay called us all over, and the Hart family's dowsing rods were also sensing activities. Mr. McVay had a camera with him and I asked him to take a photo because sometimes when the dowsing rods sense energy you can capture it on film.

When we returned back to our store on Main Street, Mr. McVay gave me his SD card to put into my laptop so that we could examine the photos more carefully -- and that's when we saw these two photos...the first one clearly shows what appear to be two feet standing right in front of the grave, but in the second photo the feet are gone! Folks, I promise you that these photos were taken separately within seconds of each other and that no retouching was done to them...this is exactly the way they were taken:

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSG5H9BmZgNxU1Y8eCVnt2mvqPyl0xgjqbh_QPGb6_-8itsV2KLWpsIt2X4QjlhGjW8y80W5Zm2lQscn3XM2nMuZromXDJoFPXq1zith47tOMtiv5DgOAyYlv3MnJpdTXMQ7xrqOUhfIHr/s400/c+McVay+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598455762754042642" />

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrD9qy-rR4HETSXf_-9kgcLkAz3lOBQT97fdB8NzDGKnI-6XPc74mK7-LYuWq-fUz8eR_-Lrnfs4FIGRlKiqAZVQudfGYFjDvS4tcgK3mbJv1pQMqILWJSUBAyf63d9of-nhJ_G-sO3zAz/s400/C+McVay+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598455751485553650" />

What I find interesting about this is that we've had three different tours within the last two weeks where we could SWEAR we heard footsteps in the cemetery! We tried to discredit them by thinking they were a possum or something else rustling through the leaves, but frankly, I could hear the steps distinctly and they sounded like they were slow and far-apart, not the scurrying footsteps of an animal.

Did we capture evidence to prove there is something walking through Old Baptist and "greeting" us during our tours????

You be the judge...

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397697687166095166.post-76911307658141159412011-04-01T14:00:00.003-05:002011-04-01T14:20:57.996-05:00Mysterious Happenings at the Old Catholic ChurchLast week we had Jennifer and her family from Wisconsin on our Haunted Hannibal tour. She just emailed me this photo and description via Facebook:

"Hi,I was going to call you about this, but we were so busy this week there just wasn't anytime. So last Saturday after we went to dinner we decided to stop by that old church that was on the tour to see if we could hear the choir singing. My daughter and I got out of the car and I went up to the door and put my ear to it. I heard a loud thump and the door kinda shook, but I don't think it was anything paranormal - maybe just the bowlers [there's a bowling alley attached to the south side of the church].

"Then my sister came out to take a picture of us in front of the church. Caitlin and I sat on the steps and she had her dowsing rods in her hands. My sister took 3 pictures. The first two with her camera turned out fine and the rods are pointing forward. When she took the last picture she freaked out because she said something was on the picture. Then from nowhere a cat starts yowling really creepy. I figured she was just trying to scare me, and I wanted a picture of me with my ear to the door. But there were definitely thumps and the door was moving (still- probably the wind).

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ6HcOYsmdJozj0CnxnzghASdonk-1-7giap-FfiM257SZXvuO8FCSBCBTXRwDujwOzwPY5yxqEXap4gvn3s0ZDzf3eAL7RPd67JrTD_Yc-QZz8pkUTfGVGJG5mPfj9gf3h-AEzVlGVVph/s400/Sternberg+032611.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5590694102534859474" />

"When I looked at the picture on my camera there is a huge black shadow over the right side of the picture that you can actually see through and if you look at Caitlin the dowsing rods are pointing directly at the shadow!!!! Totally creepy!! ...Until someone can explain the creepy shadow I not quite as skeptical anymore!!!"

One thing I find interesting about this photo is that the shadow IS see-through...so if it were the camera strap or a finger covering part of the camera lens, you wouldn't be able to see through the shadow...and above the shadow, next to Caitlin, is an orb!

Happy Hauntings, Jennifer, and thanks for bringing your family on the tour and sharing the info with us!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397697687166095166.post-34870999387727274622011-03-26T12:11:00.003-05:002011-03-26T12:52:58.367-05:00A Chill at Old Baptist Cemetery<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrzHvyZ5WeeSSvXB18PF19UpZ3ehLjwkWXjBZmijQv7TZp7ncljvs5AEGtJ-91JYqkyCpEWVTG6Jb1SlwJY8tw8wDo7oSzXLx_wH0REXPkRT8K-zZXcnLFJHTuTf4GL9ED2lVV4kGaunkx/s400/For+Haunted+Book+019.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5588444081053614306" />
As you scroll down through the posts on this website you'll notice that many of them are about Old Baptist Cemetery. This might be because we spend more time there than we do any other part of the tour...but I believe it is also because there is so much energy out at the old graveyard. We have probably had 600 tours at Old Baptist in the past two years, and hundreds of people have detected paranormal activity while roaming around the old graves.

Last night was no exception...we had two tours, one at 5pm and one at 7pm, and it was very cold, around 30 degrees. I was out at Old Baptist with the second tour sometime around 8:15pm, and although it was pitch black and chilly, we could still detect all kinds of energy as we roamed around the graves.

One of the guests on our tour, Frank, was close by me with his dowsing rods and suddenly I realized it had become considerably colder where I was standing. I called Frank over and asked him if he felt it, too...and then we realized we could see each other's breath as we talked. There was no question that we were standing near a cold spot...and as confirmation, Frank's dowsing rods began to pull towards the cold! We asked if the presence were male (crossed rods) or female (open rods) and the rods crossed. Then we asked if he was buried at Old Baptist, and the rods crossed again for a "yes". I then asked the spirit if he could lead Frank to where he was buried...and suddenly the cold spot disappeared! Also, as soon as the cold spot moved away, we could no longer see our breath as we spoke! We later felt the cold spot a few feet away, but it quickly disappeared again when we tried to ask another question. I wonder now if the energy was physically trying to pull us toward where he was buried; when I asked it to show us, I was thinking the spirit would move the dowsing rods but maybe he was actually moving toward his grave and expecting us to follow...?

I still find it a bit hard to believe that we are out at this old cemetery in the dark and surrounded by spirits...but folks, I've been out there too many times, and I've experienced too many cold spots and other paranormal occurrences -- I am convinced that something out there is present.

I'll never forget an experience I had on a tour early last year. There was a young lady named Samantha visiting us from Arizona. She was in her teens, very quiet and shy, very introverted. She never spoke the entire time we were on our tour, never even talked while we were walking around Old Baptist.

After the tour was over, she and her father came back into our shop on Main Street and I noticed her father was nudging her over to me. She quietly walked up to me and whispered, "My father wanted me to tell you that you're right about Old Baptist Cemetery."

"What do you mean?" I asked. "Do you have information about Old Baptist?"

She answered, "You are right about there being ghosts at the cemetery."

She went on to explain that she has been able to see ghosts since she was a little girl. Her father nodded his head in agreement. She seemed to be a bit burdened by this ability and was uncomfortable talking about it.

"So you saw ghosts while we were at Old Baptist?" I asked. Samantha said, "Many." I then asked, "Okay, now when you say 'many', are you talking five, or are you talking fifty...?"

Samantha paused for a moment, looking up at the ceiling to think, and then said, "I'd say at any given time there are fifteen to twenty."

I was giving another tour in the afternoon late last summer and felt a cold spot next to me. I started to explain to the group about cold spots, and suddenly a man spoke up and said, "I'm not surprised you feel the cold, there's a ghost standing next to you." He then went on to describe a young lady with a short hairdo...I nearly jumped out of my skin!

I must tell you I am SO JEALOUS of those gifted with the ability to "see" these spirits...Oh, if only I were a clairvoyant and could see these energies for myself! But of course, you'd still be skeptical unless you could see them for yourself...

Until then, I'll enjoy just knowing the cold spots at Old Baptist like to follow me around!

HAPPY HAUNTINGS!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397697687166095166.post-76782621189499973252011-03-21T10:26:00.003-05:002011-03-21T10:45:11.718-05:00Happy 239th Birthday, Mr. Ingraham!It was a warm, breezy evening last night at Mt. Olivet cemetery, a great place to celebrate the official First Day of Spring 2011! During our Haunted Hannibal tour, a couple from Rolla was "investigating" using their dowsing rods and were pulled toward a particular headstone...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBua31YfCnIzvm3O8W7IN-Z8jTZtV9AwGmnlDd6DBBqCZs_dbpphIaLNZ8Q0nG6D4DwAlHgC8SsGuSPGP6mCxx24XSGW4TJ1MYsDpAORzFxCMwRIP0Uw3VaLEYSDYSghobOxvqZs2zuksz/s400/Rolla+Couple.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5586557582361488626" />

...They found the headstone lying on its back on the ground, having fallen from its original base. The stone is for Barton Ingraham, and maybe the reason we were pulled toward him was that he wants us to recognize his birthday! The headstone is inscribed, "Barton Ingraham, Born In Boston, Mass., Mar. 21, 1772, Died in Hannibal, MO, Oct. 26, 1846".

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqJ4IYyyVsuzv1FXTdU2_SfY8RtIwRxpMy-8wGyiRmhUrlGQlx5Inbj1pTmugeWM1KBknAY3CzI2C50YANVz_krkDJk_4xOmWm3RKQyYhR3b_ekNWhdpk_B1Vp_jjBkHmXM9p4lgdLy7ft/s400/Ingraham+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5586557577984522514" />

So here's Happy Birthday to you, Mr. Ingraham, 239 years young today!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397697687166095166.post-85676922262350562272011-03-05T20:51:00.004-06:002011-03-05T21:28:32.662-06:00Teeny Tiny SpiritsHello all, it was a cold day in Hannibal (temps hovering around the freezing mark) but we had a really fun group on tour! Check out our little ghost hunters, sisters from mid-Illinois:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhx4f0TiQaMxOihEWDi8oAGz3X_Gfs5eDZVyJfYz7WbqoaMHuapbqhM01KCbvTk3dR-mpalKqECubLpTvoVFyu4D1tqmHteoHwoMrc_QxkEWbJvD5p1rkkSUbzdnHibq76mpqhdQ0Mo9CCJ/s400/Dietrich+Girls.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5580800410793649362" />

One interesting thing we found was that there seemed to be teeny tiny orbs of energy out at Old Baptist this evening. Come explore with us!

Oh, by the way...we have two more houses, one in the Central Park historic district and one in the Maple Avenue historic district, that we now have confirmed, first-hand accounts of paranormal activity! More on that later...!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397697687166095166.post-51884128729140989192010-11-13T19:17:00.004-06:002010-11-13T19:33:17.054-06:00A Cold Mist at Old BaptistHello friends! We just got back from a Saturday night tour at Old Baptist Cemetery and I wanted to share an amazing photo with you!

This photo was taken by Shannon Yingst. She and her husband had been on our Ghost Tour in September and came back for a second tour tonight, and caught this photo of a mist at Old Baptist...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvRGKI1qnqU4zVWfHYqQZZ8R_QyTm-CrGsHvxS4R2n7ezuFl8gk4ToG9V0ftQMAnoB5nthesMmas_VCNxkeagqq0qoL7NXAB-7KU0l6iMxONOsmcga_o7YbDq_vrw2DtguAq_Nhc4GvZb8/s400/Shannon+Yingst+1a.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539209529737582978" />

It was cold tonight (around 40 degrees) and there was a little bit of a breeze, but you'll notice in the second photo that the mist has disappeared! These photos were taken within seconds of each other, and you can see how little Shannon moved when she took the second photograph by looking at the headstone in the photo:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDnfNAHa_3DSanQstxMQrEL0_a28kkyE9Y9kPoE0id5d7AAcGmkxexMBo8qdb7WTXKGzbgqQ8UJGR2Oj4W_-VznY5YQJ3-bY0jkwphrJTSB4f36GLRC57MFDJuIFHkUCWlFxnKQBrybtAO/s400/Shannon+Yingst+1b.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5539209539986223714" />

The interesting thing to me, now that we are in mid-November, is that Shannon did NOT catch any multiple orb photos out at Old Baptist, even though she took thirty or forty photographs -- so the phenomenon we reported on earlier during October seems to have subsided! Also, the dowsing rods were barely moving at all out at the cemetery tonight...not much energy present. Yet, we still have evidence of paranormal energy there with the photo of the mist...? But it does seem that now that Halloween has passed that the energy level at the cemetery has decreased. I think this also shows that those multiple orb photos we reported earlier on this blog were the real deal -- we were really capturing heightened paranormal activity at the cemetery in October!

It is sooooo cool that our guests have such a good time on our tours that many come back to take the tour a second time -- thank you all so much for your support, we really do appreciate it!

Stay warm but have a "chilling" good time with your ghost hunts!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397697687166095166.post-25209386897169797052010-10-30T09:48:00.006-05:002010-11-02T14:13:09.722-05:00Got Orbs???More photos with multiple orbs taken at Old Baptist Cemetery on last night's tour!!!

Here's one sent in by Amy Hastings. The headstone in the photo was for Jenny, the wife of William Henry Hatch, an eight term U.S. Congressman from Hannibal in the mid- to late-19th Century:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh070f0PZLsTt8K2w1U_lFwwsSogS4pCpp1t0FHrtsMIxz_j_PNsKRY6DXYSnQbADK1dA0yQzhr1PVL0UMRNq2xnaHQHtE9PsO6Cl4lsxrzhLfhl5LC9K3XjXXF0H9GWe4BTrUG4Npl7262/s400/Amy+Hasting+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5533852648480372674" />

And Tiffany Ruesch sent in this photo, also taken last night. The obelisk in the photo is in the northwest corner of the cemetery, in an area where we have started noticing a lot of energy and activity with the dowsing rods:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjO0ZZNWu9OPwK1zSVUzXCggzqlixZ1BEfpbK4Mp-M6yVJTMJTVVZOI-oltMuAstizW-h_2pGPtbMKJoOVKi_D51nQAx6mG3uLsyL31y2PK2e1m6NSZ0EhbmV_zF1f53wVC2qk5_pROUVZ/s400/Tiffany.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5533857686693412226" />

Then, Sandy Debrick and seven of her kids were with her and they caught these multiple orb pictures (which apparently made an impact on the kids who were a bit skeptical at first!):

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJYNAvVbBROdbxEEafRJRHwsoJ_ypHTFSAlzIU1q5zEoE2p1pybtcrMlgZq3-h-gSwYxINHsucG54tp1WCYnhYJZFODFtiT4eiTqzZakQziQW-nDiUGgWt0G7GxJt51maH1AGL2FaZCPpZ/s400/Sandy+Debrick+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5535031681688131762" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE72kHBjRkdh0y5j8jamsI1iUITd75oxFrJkNa9mgBXyhg-TkOWEIWut-v6yKDpK1WXUXp6afWFtvPcd_lAR7RgVSWRZoXnSNeBUjFLBmWaUe93yMNEyFI8kLAzDjmAE-WfgDpNAZp7gJj/s400/Sandy+Debrick+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5535031678742243906" />

For those who would try to debunk these photos: There was no rain or humidity that night, but it was cold (upper 40s).

Does anyone have any idea how there could be so many orbs in so many photos???

Thanks, Amy, Sandy and Tiffany, and if anyone else has photos to share, please email them to lisa@hauntedhannibal.com

More to come!
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397697687166095166.post-27386506447520811722010-10-29T12:51:00.005-05:002010-10-30T10:19:11.324-05:00MORE EVIDENCE For Your ConsiderationWe received yet another multiple "orb" picture from Susan O'Kane who was on our tour last Friday night...as I say on the tour, we always seem to have a lot of activity near the tree with the cross next to it...and I still can't figure out how we are getting so many photos with multiple orbs!!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivFWQU-MQbbcnDaq1sriGGiGXeZVt1ucQ6hA1oCOklERSjoU55yLYx6QSj26mq4EHh1gXyca9o0cvN1C-DRDFNs6Gh6KUgEg9F9DZwgRl4ya7BVNLA2LiQsIbG8LKcC-WfQLPx8TYVpPSo/s400/Susan+Perkins+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5533530398384047682" />

I also received these two photos from Alan and Jen Harvey via email. Alan was pulled toward this headstone by the dowsing rods...and as you can see, when he took a photo with the camera on his cell phone, he caught what looks like three giant fingers creeping around the side of the headstone!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtSOsaARmdWHv-Qaulxp2W8Cu7qaEM9XnEGIQL520BECiK1TK6hlJ15rjfmmv-muBURip9ZSC6raeppwUQWw7aCU4xbxKwLkB5Mxpj-Rpe9glhwbAy3CWfJEdp9vlBrmonMSzrG98gnxN_/s400/Alan+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5533530403608223954" />

The second photo was taken only seconds afterward, and no black shadows appear...and we are sure that no one was standing near the stone to cast the shadows, nor were his fingers near the phone's camera lens...!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhazB8_Tpgk3fx7CAbODcJmRJUCvlr6fMDkAFfp5j3m-qW-fsBGHtQ0kVgLqf3_7_ZMYWmDQnC2FEjA_PWtSvXdr7bAsasw7tsLb5XEFrn_WyL43f-QueG4CdaVG5r5knHXUgG0wPEK1VFG/s400/Alan+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5533530405646338738" />

Keep an eye on this blog, as we are sure to have more spooky, creepy, paranormal photos from this weekend's tours -- Its Finally Halloween! As I say on the tours, I can tell you HOW the dowsing rods work, but I can't tell you WHY. Is there really a spirit present that senses one of our guests and specifically calls out to them, using the dowsing rods as a communication tool to pull the guest over to the grave for a personal visit?

For example, a while back we had a man on tour and the dowsing rods kept leading him strongly toward a couple of the head stones in the cemetery...each of the headstones displayed a Freemason symbol of some sort. The man being led was a Mason! He was even wearing his Masonic ring that night!

Last night, a guest on our tour named Kim was walking around Old Baptist Cemetery and the rods kept pulling her to a specific spot on the hill to the west of the walnut tree. (Notice the orb next to her head and near her left elbow, as well!)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5jffqoP1K1mQRGKS_mxm9EmoTxDcWfJZWkKzjS-wLKm3WZ5Dd9YMH6UoodqAta1pm6KftFY1KZ6-D-s8Uczr579wil0sSbvDOKntNG6Wm0R9EZSCl_8-AutCvlV3znlqac6Mai0ZoEnCB/s400/Kim+E.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5533167232649078898" />

What was interesting was that her destination was not a headstone, it was a patch of bare earth...under her feet, she could feel a firmness to the ground, and it was a solid feeling rather than soft earth as found all around this spot. We are pretty sure there is a buried headstone in this location (or maybe simply a grave). As soon as we have a chance we'll check the area out and see if we can find out what was calling out to Kim. She was pulled more than fifty feet to that specific spot...and she tried it more than one time to confirm that this was the intended spot for her to visit!

Also on our tour last night were Chuck and Gail, and they too were pulled to specific areas of the cemetery by the dowsing rods.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_7sTswCSpZMt3q2Amw4lLRavKoY0OxljY1zPXEEWDv37GyikIXnKI3LfmVp_bvFJmUu06nWzcTy0J9Z0uhqEBctWwnjmdxrJF8BwxyU4lAiAbHWarlzGJIoePpUPbeQxPRwLxlJ2y3Y9C/s400/Chuck+and+Gail+B+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5533170887059188930" />

Their camera also caught orbs in nearly every photo, and as the one below shows, the phenomenon we talked about last week still holds true...we're still getting photos on every tour that have multiple orbs present in the photo.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSzcUlc-5obBpM7IplKGCfTWoq1iZ1WWhIFbr-dbh47j0BGDarUKQFiS4gPD1CcXlLLfi2NAiOzMuVdyb7k2GxOcN40YnNQ4U2ZYWHJnO7pTR5efQi7qW00RNy9ei96o-7kp0gFwaCDWqS/s400/Chuck+and+Gail+B+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5533170904375516018" />

Any ideas? Built in 1875, it was originally the home of the First Congregational Church. Beginning in 1880 it was consecrated for use by the Catholics who renamed it the Church of the Immaculate Conception, and they used the building until 1955. Since that time it has been used as an American Legion Hall, a dinner theater, a part of the bowling alley, and finally as the home of the Hannibal Community Theatre. And it's haunted!

I received this email from Amy Tully who was on our tour on Friday, Oct. 15th, who brought her EVP recorder to Hannibal and gave this report:

Hi! My father and I just took your ghost tour last Friday. I JUST HAD TO LET YOU KNOW what evidence I got outside of the Catholic church!! Since you told us that people have heard all sorts of noises coming from the church we decided to get a coffee and bring the EVP and set it on the church while we talked sitting down next to the church. WITHIN 17 secs of the recording you can hear a choir singing. At 3:22 the choir sings some more and gets extremely loud where I even heard it with my own ears to 3:33!! It was mindblowing and simply amazing, thanks for sharing that with us :) If you would like I will try to send the EVP recording to you, I'm sure you will enjoy it! Thank you again for everything and I will be sharing your website with a lot of people!

We're hoping to put Amy's EVP on the blog so you can download it and hear it for yourself, keep checking this blog for updates...!

By the way, right now the Old Catholic Church is on the "Most Endangered List" here in Hannibal...if a buyer is not found to restore the structure, it may have to be torn down...but if you know anyone who might be interested, the church building and property is for sale for only $29,500.00!!! And you can live inside the church, too, as the choir loft was converted into an apartment. Please, won't someone save this old church and keep the congregation that's haunting it happy?

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397697687166095166.post-11690118680117687422010-10-22T13:31:00.008-05:002010-10-28T13:55:55.652-05:00A Ghost at the Garden House!For those of you who have taken the Haunted Hannibal Ghost Tour, you know that the Garden House B&B is haunted...named one of the ten best places in the country to sleep with a ghost by the NBC Today show...and that the Today show cameras tried to shoot footage in the attic space, but the camera kept losing battery and shutting down in a certain area of the attic.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR4DVdBUC3r02W7NIhxsQVydJtZigm0YKOxJfZ8jsewe7CrKAf1TeG3b3BgVHwTT-6CXeNBcpsDcvhn7toAw7Qeo1Jyn58m-2zBCi1KzkPZvnOFRmp0VL3g9V0D-bpzvU_O_BcuyZDDqbm/s400/Tammy+Lyons+Garden+House.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5530941665453001986" />

Tammy Lyons was a guest on our tour and took this photo of the Garden House. If you look very carefully in the close-up of the attic window on the north side of the house (the right side of the photo), there seems to be a man's face peering around the right side of the window. Here's what they reported in an email sent to me last week:

"We stayed at the Garden House in the South Room over October 8-10. We took your tour that Friday night and I was the husband Lisa told she would drop the Garden House from the tour [his wife didn’t know the house was haunted and we didn’t want to scare her], but my wife wanted to know if the Garden House was haunted or not so you did that part too.

"Anyway, the first night there, Deb woke me right after 3 am in the morning and said she woke up and couldn't sleep. I actually had to stand in the hall while she went to the bathroom...At 3:04 am I woke up out a deep sleep (not like me) and asked Deb if she shut off the fan (the room had a tower fan on the floor). She said no, but when I checked the fan was off and I had turned it on before we went to bed. When I told Chris about it and that we both had woken up shortly after 3 am, he said most people who have experiences there have them between 2-3 am."

Marty also sent a photo of an orb he took inside the Garden House, but unfortunately I was not able to get it to upload to the blog. :(

Thanks so much to everyone who emails us with stories and photos, its fun to hear other's experiences and to be able to share the information with our blog friends!

<img src="http://i602.photobucket.com/albums/tt108/valentinestudio123/Client%20Blog%20Design/Signatures/The-Gilded-Age-Sig.png" style="border: none; The photos are taken at night and only seem to show up on photos that are wide shots of the whole cemetery -- most of the close-up photos I've seen of headstones don't have any orbs. One photos has literally hundreds of orbs!

Here are the conditions at the time these photos have been taken...cool night, usually in the upper 50s...no humidity or moisture in the air (we haven't had any rain for nearly three weeks)...no lights on in the cemetery, no flashlights shining into the photos...nearly a full moon, lots of moonlight in the cemetery...all these photos are taken with different cameras by different people on different nights.

If anyone can de-bunk these photos we'd appreciate it, but if not, WOW, is there a lot of activity in the cemetery! One thought: the reason that Halloween has been celebrated for hundreds of years by different cultures is because it is believed that this time of the year, as the days get shorter, that the "veil" between the living and the dead is at its thinnest point, and this is when it is the easiest to communicate with those who have crossed over. Maybe these orbs really are energy that has become more pronounced as we get closer to the full moon and Halloween!

Let us know what you think!

Special thanks to Penny Monroe, Robert Lee, Therese Melnykov, Bob Higgins, Pat Thueme, and the O'Connells for sharing your photos with us!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7397697687166095166.post-23340579830288730752010-10-22T11:08:00.006-05:002010-10-28T13:57:52.238-05:00A Visit with AgnessHello friends, sorry it has been so long since I posted here but we've been a bit busy...the fall "haunted" season is in full swing, and I have lots of new stories to share with you. I'm going to post several items today in separate blogs, there have been some amazing experiences on our tours in the past month!

This post is a story emailed to me by Morgan Trousdale who was on our ghost tour last Saturday night, Oct. 16th. It was a really interesting experience, and I concur with Morgan's recollection of the evening, it happened just as she explains:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipfUQpA_fuY02EU1ynLsNjlUVGECbs78E0pB-DJGykrdBlXOVlW4aVmjYcPzIr5nSRFBX3Do5Nvgo2JDI44oeaSaYCkZ0ishh0t0WH33Lm9DekRs5GL0uT1QsA-j4N-L3QcxGefjAVKHee/s400/Agness.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5530910832115148578" />

My name is Morgan Trousdale and I’m…well…I don’t want to say a medium (although that’s what I suppose I am). Let’s just say that I’m a sensitive. The “gift,” as my mother calls it, runs in my family. Most, if not all, of the women in my family can, see auras, read cards, and sense and communicate with spirit.

I signed up for the Haunted Hannibal Tour with the idea that I would sit quietly and enjoy the novelty of it all. But, even on the trolley ride around the city, I experienced things.

While sitting outside the Stillwell lot, listening to the story of the Stillwell murder, I was overcome with the strangest sensations. It was as though my own emotions, my own self, was pushed aside and replaced with intense waves of anger, hate, apathy, and, finally, satisfaction. I remember playing with the dowsing rods on my lap and thinking, “This isn’t me.” As soon as the story shifted to that of the Library, those feelings eased and eventually dissipated. Then, as we stopped outside the Old Catholic Church, my chest got heavy and I couldn’t breathe. As soon as we pulled away and put some distance between the trolley and the church, the heaviness subsided and I could breathe again.

As extraordinary as those events may be, they paled in comparison to my experience in the Old Baptist Cemetery.

The first grave site that Lisa led the group to was a marked slave headstone bearing the name of Agness. As Lisa told us about Agness, and the stone beside her marked Petunia, I pulled out my dowsing rods and silently asked, “Are you here?”

Immediately, my rods crossed. I smiled and whispered to my boyfriend, Sean, telling him Agness was around. About that time, Lisa noticed a cold spot and called the group over to feel it.

After that we visited several other graves, and each time Lisa felt a cold spot. Each time, I held out my rods and they reacted to whatever energy was in the area. Finally, at the third or forth grave and cold spot, Lisa asked someone with dowsing rods to step forward. I was up front and had mine at the ready so I did.

“Is anyone here,” asked Lisa. The rods crossed. “If you are the owner of this grave, can you indicate a yes for us?” Nothing happened…the rods remained straight.
I smiled and said, “I have to tell you that, while we were over at Agness’ grave, I asked ‘Are you here,’ and my rods crossed.”

Lisa then asked, “Is this Agness?” The rods crossed.

“Well,” I said, “I guess she just wanted some company. But I’m not sure if she’s following you, the tour, or someone else.”

“Wow,” Lisa said, “and we don’t even have a medium to confirm.”

I took a deep breath and said, “Well…actually you do.”

Lisa laughed and said, “Well there you go. You people always hold out on me!”

Agness followed us around the cemetery for the rest of the time we were there, and I was freezing the entire time. I should mention that it was so warm when we got to the cemetery, I left my jacket on the trolley.

At one point, Sean whispered in my ear for a response from the rods. “Are you following the tour?” No response. “Are you following Lisa?” No response.

I groaned and said, “Oh good, Lord. Are you following me?” The rods crossed and Sean laughed.

Lisa looked up and must have seen my crossed rods and pained expression and laughed herself. “Are you being followed?” I nodded and she laughed again. “It’s because you can communicate with her.”

As the other tour members wandered around the cemetery, Lisa and I talked about Agness. She’d mentioned earlier that she didn’t really know who Petunia was. I got the urge to tell her “It was her daughter.” I went on to say that it could be a granddaughter or something, but the feeling I was getting from Agness was definitely maternal.

As Lisa called for everyone to meet back at the trolley, I asked her to point me back to Agness’ grave so I could drop her back off at home. Sean and I walked back over to the gravestone. I held out my rods and said, “Well, it’s been fun, Agness. I enjoyed the company, thank you. But, it’s time for you to go home.” Suddenly I felt warmer. Even Sean noticed the temperature change when he took my hand.

When we got back to the store, I asked Lisa if it had gotten warmer after I left. She confirmed that it did warm up as soon as I walked away.

So, if you get the chance to go on the Haunted Hannibal Tour, go. It’s an amazing time. Who knows…you may have your own conversation with Agness.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEju9yxUhPOtJln8h-lb_PthFWbv-Qf1surIvS7yXA3nuBk_M8x7lzhpskfU81vnNo2PS7M6MiuoI_D2NJy7fPs4Mr0mcscAYcTyR8yDSYf18AXK_wFoJ6LgvazYaCMHCi5GEIIb_VWunFdW/s400/Agness+Petunia.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5530907945958231698" />

Thanks, Morgan, for the recap...it was a very interesting experience!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com
