We Couldn't Say It Better Ourselves!

A review by GradyShark from Houston, Texas who was recently on the Haunted Hannibal Ghost Tour:

"The tour guide took us around Hannibal and told us some fascinating real life stories and reported ghost encounters, while teaching us a great deal about the history of the town. The highlight of the tour was visiting the graveyard. My younger cousins, who tagged along, enjoyed "talking" to spirits using dowsing rods. You don't have to believe in ghosts or the paranormal to have fun on this tour." Visited July 2016

AMAZING Paranormal Occurances on our Tours!!!

Hello again friends, we've been having a wonderful time introducing our guests to Haunted Hannibal, and we have new paranormal reports to share with you!

On Sunday we had a delightful group, and one guest in particular had quite an interesting experience...as we were walking through Mt. Olivet Cemetery with dowsing rods, Ms. Joyce Ray was surprised that her rods kept pointing in one direction. I told her that it was possible she was being "led" to a certain location, and to follow the rods' lead. As she walked they pulled her approx. 30 feet towards a particular headstone, and as she approached the headstone the rods crossed, signaling that she had reached her destination. I watched as she examined the headstone in front of her, and suddenly her mouth dropped open and her eyes grew wide...she called for me to come over...and she said, "The name on this headstone is Moore. That is my mother's maiden name!" She was astounded that she might have been personally summoned by the departed buried there! She also told me she had just recently joined Ancestry.com and had planned to start researching that part of her family tree...so perhaps this Moore was kin!

It is so delightful when one of our guests has a personal "connection" while exploring around the cemeteries...hopefully their experiences encourage others to visit their family's graves to reconnect with their dearly departed, as well!

Here's a photograph of Ms. Ray by the Moore headstone:

Then, last night, we had another fun bunch on tour. One family was from Southampton, United Kingdom, and Ms. Jessica Lenehan snapped this interesting photo out at Old Baptist Cemetery:

Below is another photo taken seconds later, with no "white spot" to the right:

And here's a close-up of the first photo Jessica took, what do you think???

As usual, Old Baptist Cemetery never fails to provide chills and thrills to guests on tour!

If you have taken one of our tours and would like to share a photograph on our blog, feel free to email us anytime at info@historichannibaltours.com.

Fun with Dowsing Rods

And now, a word about Dowsing Rods...we use these "low tech" devices on our haunted tours to detect energy while at the cemetery, and guests are always amazed at how responsive they seem to be!

Dowsing rods have been used for hundreds of years to detect water and minerals underground. These resources have an electromagnetic pull that causes the dowsing rods to move toward them, much like a compass. Ghost hunters and paranormal investigators believe that spirits or energies are also electromagnetic (we humans also have an electromagnetic "pull"). So, if energy is present, the rods will move toward the "pull".

Some paranormal investigators have developed their skill to the point of using dowsing rods to actually converse with spirits. If you think you sense a presence near you, begin to ask yes or no questions, and tell the presence to cross the rods for "no" or open the rods for "yes". If you concentrate, and are very still, the rods will be a tool for the presence to use to answer your questions. Always be very respectful (don't try to "fool" the ghost -- these were once real people, you know!). You might be surprised by the responses you receive!

The dowsing rods we use on our tours are custom made by paranormal investigators located in Florida, and each pair of rods is tested for balance and sensitivity. The beaded handles provide comfort and allow the rods to move freely without being encumbered by your hands. Our rods are made of brass which is highly sensitive to electromagnetic pulls and we have found the design of these dowsing rods to be ideal when attempting to detect paranormal energies.

The proper way to hold dowsing rods is to hold them gently in your hands by the beaded handle, with arms slightly bent and your elbows by your side. Relax your shoulders. Never clench the handles; the rods should move freely without restriction.

For practice, have a friend hide a bottle of water on the ground and use the rods to search for it. Pay attention to the rods when you approach the water. Your dowsing rods can direct you to the location by pointing you in the direction you need to go.

Rods are not used for seances or fortune telling, but simply to sense paranormal energy and simple questions to confirm the entity's presence. With patience, practice, and a serious respect for the energies you are trying to engage, you too can do your own paranormal investigations and reach beyond the thin veil that separates the living and the dead!

Got Ghosts?

Okay, all you skeptics out there...I have to report to you that we have had SO MANY paranormal experiences in the past week! Each tour seems to bring more "insight" into energies detected during our cemetery walks...

Last Saturday we had David M. on our 3pm tour. David gives ghost tours in Alton, Illinois, and told me he was also clairvoyant. We detected a cold spot while we were roaming around Old Baptist Cemetery, and David confirmed it was "energy" by saying, "There's a lady standing next to you, Lisa." OOOH, I wish I had "the gift" and could have seen her! David also said he sensed a young African American male wandering in the back near the fence line at Old Baptist...

On Sunday night at the 7pm tour, one of our guests, Alison S., snapped a photo with what might be a moving orb near the fence in Old Baptist Cemetery. Although my husband Ken is always skeptical of orbs in photos, I've put this photo on today's blog posting with a close-up as well so that you can be the judge...

On Monday, we enjoyed a visit on our 3pm tour from John, his wife Lisa, his son Joseph and daughter Lexie who were from the St. Louis area. Soon young Joseph became very adept working with the dowsing rods, using them to ask questions of energy at Mt. Olivet (rods "opening" for yes, "crossing" for no). Joseph ended up having quite a conversation with Sarah, a lady buried at Mt. Olivet whose headstone is near the Clemens family, under a pine tree (if you've taken our tour, you'll recall that Sarah's headstone has a big chunk that has fallen from the lower right corner but somehow miraculously still stands). Later, at Old Baptist Cemetery, Joseph befriended a Civil War Union soldier...his father John began to taunt the soldier a bit, telling him he was from the South, and suddenly reported being "poked" in the back by an unseen force! Joseph continued to have a lengthy conversation with the soldier, and joined us again on our 7pm tour as other guests watched him resume his conversation. Fascinating!

Ms. Kotani from Japan was on our 7pm tour last night and was shocked to hear on our tour that the bed and breakfast she was staying at, the Garden House, was haunted! However, she came to the shop this morning to tell me that she believed she'd actually SEEN and HEARD a ghost in her room at the Garden House last night!

Samantha W. from Arizona was also on our tour last night at 7pm, a delightful young lady. She told me near the beginning of the tour that she was "sensitive" to energies, but I had no idea just how sensitive she was! She said she could feel the presence of Sarah at Mt. Olivet cemetery (the same Sarah that Joseph was talking to on Monday). Samantha also sensed energy near the west fence-line of Old Baptist Cemetery. In her words, the energies there were not threatening, but were protective of their space. Samantha believes that at any given time, there are as many as 15 to 20 spirits roaming Old Baptist Cemetery!
